Review of Batman: Year One (2011) by Dustin P — 13 Jan 2013
If you liked the comic book version of this story, you're probably going to like this. However, I found the source material to be fairly boring and this wasn't any better for me. I love Batman, but I don't really understand why this story is hyped up by comic book fans so much. Maybe I would have liked it more if I had read it in the 80's? I thought the voice-acting was decent, but wasn't thrilled with the animation (although I understand that this style of animation is appropriate for matching the look of the comic book).
(Minor spoiler:).
One part of the story I really don't like is having Gordon cheat on his wife. Made me dislike this version of the future commissioner. Why have a good guy do something so terrible? Just to have the storyline of him being blackmailed and explain why he couldn't testify against Flass? It's unnecessary, terrible, and borderline lazy storytelling, in my opinion.
