Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Ryan V — 11 May 2012
Gotham City is being plagued by The Red Hood (Jensen Ackles), a vigilante who uses ruthless tactics to bring local gangsters under his heel. Naturally, Batman (Bruce Greenwood) wastes no time in opposing this man, but his adversary seems to have inside knowledge about the Dark Knight's crime fighting methods.
The plot thickens when Batman is shocked to discover that The Red Hood is somehow connected to Jason Todd, a former Robin who was brutally murdered by The Joker (Joe DiMaggio). I wasn't crazy about the Judd Winick-scripted graphic novel that this film is derived from, but the story translates to the screen with gritty effectiveness.
I give a great deal of credit to Brandon Vietti's direction, slick animation produced by Bruce Timm, and a killer voice cast.
