Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Moises Aaron M — 26 Jul 2017
A little clunky condensing as it does 20 years of comic history (or substitutes for it), even though it's cleverly streamlined there's still a lot of exposition and flashbacks. These are a necessary evil, and they are an integral part of the plot, forming part of an investigation that allows Batman to shine as the dark knight detective, but this means the story doesn't feel very immediate.
A lot of the remaining runtime is further taken up with action, mostly of a kind that isn't particularly thrilling and it isn't until the climax that it really grips you. Luckily the ending is so tense and affecting that it makes the slightly uneven journey to get there worthwhile.
