Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Kenny W — 06 Oct 2012
Animation doesn't do Under the Red Hood any justice. This is truly a piece of art, and should be seen as such.
Unlike so many animated films, this installation of Batman has a well thought out and defined plot with more at stake than any title before it. A shattered psyche, the thin line dividing good and evil, and a former ally gone rogue separate this from your typical beating up of bad guys in Gotham City.
To pair with the top-notch artistic rendering of our favorite super hero is equally extravagant voice work. Bruce Greenwood makes for a fantastic Bruce Wayne / Batman. And John DiMaggio makes for a less maniacal and more composed and chilling Joker.
Under the Red Hood is dark, gritty, and contains within it deeper themes. Definitely not a film for young children, and that might just be what makes it so great.
