Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Sidney S — 23 Jun 2013
A dark and deeply haunting Batman story one that is very personal and takes the Batman and Joker feud directly to the next level. Adapted from one of the most anticipated but controversial Batman graphic novels, Under the Red Hood is adapted from the story of the same name one that resurrected the character of Jason Todd, the second Robin, who returns to Gotham to take his revenge on the Joker, the man who killed him and on Batman for not avenging his death.
Bruce Greenwood is very effective in the role of Batman. the voice was dark, raspy and very fitting of the character and is even able to stand his own ground from the iconic voice of Kevin Conroy. However it is John DiMaggio's Joker that is also a scene stealer, one that is dark, gruesome and twistedly funny and different from Hamil's animated Joker.
This animated movie was made very well done in accordance to the comic, from the opening scene straight from the pages of "A Death in the Family" the comic that killed off Robin. His time as the vigilante Red Hood is just awesome. The final confrontation between Batman, Jason and The Joker is epic, and with the music, animation and pacing the scene was executed perfectly, and handled just as Batman would have. Under the Red Hood is a faithful adaption of its source.
