As a fan of the graphic novel, I was expecting something more. I wanted to feel the stakes risen and the temperature rise as the climactic confrontation drew closer, but I never felt the stakes rise. The pacing never seemed to work for me, and I felt as though the voice cast was rather lazy in their portrayals, minus Mark Hamill as the Joker.

The added Batgirl romance and story was unnecessary and silly. Sure, it made Barbara less of an object, but in this case, she is meant to be an object, used by the Joker to break Gordon and Batman. The sexual tension felt between Batman and Batgirl was almost incestuous, seeing as how I've always seen Batgirl and Batman as a father/daughter relationship, mentor/men-tee.

Overall, I was incredibly disappointed and left the theater with a bad feeling in my chest. What could have been the defining animated Batman experience went off like the gun that shoots the flag that says "Bang.

" Little impact or heart...
