Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Yasir S — 29 Jul 2016
The sections of this movie that are taken from the comic book are excellent. Mark Hamill's voicework is excellent, and the action scenes are fluid and exciting. It may be worth seeing just for the iconic sections of the killing joke.
However, everything else about this movie is horrible. The animation often feels stiff outside of the action scenes, the dialogue not taken strictly from the comic is horribly written for the most part, and the first 30 minutes of the movie, an unnecessary section focusing on Batgirl's lust for batman, absolutely does not belong in the film. It reduces Batgirl to a blubbering teenaged mess, was unnecessary for introducing batgirl, and creates a jarring tone shift when the movie gets to the actual killing joke storyline.
Overall, this movie is a strange mix of incredible and incredibly bad, with no ground in between.
