Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Chris D — 03 Aug 2016
This was an odd adaptation. The first act consisted of Batgirl chasing after her Freudian Electra complex. Although this was an interesting take on batgirl, it would have been better suited in a batgirl year 1 film, for none of this is actually relevant for the rest of the storyline.
The rest of the film was a faithful adaptation of the Joker centric Killing Joke. Sadly, Kevin Conroys batman was a little out of practice. however, Mark Hamill gave his all time best Joker performance.
His monologs, musical number, and flashbacks were all perfect pitch. Overall, the adaptation was great, but the tacked on first act was misplaced. It would've been better to have kept it short and sweet and combined it with another adaptation.
