Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Brad B — 15 Aug 2016
Two stars. One star for the stellar cast & performance, as always. Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, and Tara Strong are still in top form. One star for the composers bringing the emotions you're supposed to feel into the forefront. Damn if they didn't try. If the rest of this movie was at the same level as the acting and music, it would have been excellent.
Negative three stars for wasting an R-rating on this slightly more sexual, slightly more violent Saturday morning cartoon of a movie. The animation was so bad, it was distracting. Bruce Wayne was crosseyed in one of the scenes. Batgirls breasts were outlined in white, just to make sure you noticed. The shots that were animated well were so out of place it felt like when SpongeBob gets detailed out of nowhere for emphasis. What is this amateur nonsense wasted on such a beloved story, cast, and universe? What a disappointment.
