I have to wonder if a better preamble to the main story would have been the relationship between Gordon and Batgirl instead of Batman and Batgirl.

When the credits rolled, I reflected on the film I'd just watched. It was pretty good, actually. But what it really made me long for was the book itself, complete with Brian Bolland's amazing artwork. While the cartoon did a fair job of imitating Bolland's masterpiece, it could never capture the essence of his skills.
