Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Josh S — 06 Aug 2016
The animation is extremely crisp, phenomenal voice acting and a solid score. However I don't feel the film ever quite hit its stride. It followed the source content very well but when it veers off, it doesn't make much sense within the context of the Batman world. IE: Bruce/Babs sexual relationship, the insinuation that Joker gets off on sexual thrills, etc. All of those additives felt out of place and unnecessary. The ending was also quite anticlimactic, I think they wanted a subtle and eerie final scene but it really just felt unfulfilling.
Hamill and Conroy are amazing but I felt the film falls a bit short.
