Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Jeannie C — 27 Sep 2012
The Dark Knight is back in this second installment featuring Michael Keaton and lead by director Tim Burton. This movie continues the darkened feel (with almost every scene shot in the night?) and Burton's fantastic world and vision of Gotham city continues to come through.
This time our villains are The Penguin, in league with Max Schreck and intent on taking over Gotham city for themselves, while Selena Kyle becomes the Catwoman with her own motives.
Batman Returns would have been a great movie for its time and still holds up well 20 years on. I'm not so sure it does as well as it's predecessor though which benefited with a strong enough singular villain in Jack Nicholson's Joker, but in saying that, Returns will probably stand up better than the two films to follow it in this series.
