Review of Batman Returns (1992) by James V — 11 Dec 2012
Tim Burton's tortured-as-ever blockbuster sequel has a mark of distinction in my book, for being the one Batman movie to really take the theme of a character reinventing their identity with an animal and milking it.
And it gives good guys and bad guys see themselves in each other, which makes things like scenes between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle surprisingly clever, rich and well-done, and makes it easier to forgive ridiculous things like penguin armies and people constantly doing inexplicable somersaults.
