Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Gordon S — 29 Dec 2009
Batman: Gotham Knight serves as an unofficial companion to Batman Begins and gives us a look at what Batman if he is an anime character. Six 15-minute animated shorts (each loosely tied together) gives us six different takes on Batman.
Among the shorts, the outstanding ones would be:
WORKING THROUGH PAIN - a wounded Batman reminisces his training in India under a woman named Cassandra where he learns how to focus through his pain. This short provides an excellent back story to Batman and captures that Gothic darkness that he endures.
DEADSHOT - Batman goes one-on-one against Deadshot. Now that is a badass fight.
IN DARKNESS DWELLS - Batman tracks down Killer Croc all alone through the dark Gotham sewers. This short brings back the hallucinations from Batman Begins and that indirectly links to WORKING THROUGH PAIN.
The problem with each short is that they're too short. There's so much potential in how great these shorts are, but there's only 15 minutes of them. But if you like Batman and anime, you'll be impressed with Batman: Gotham Knight.
