Review of Batman Forever (1995) by Zachary W — 26 Jul 2015
Remember in Batman Returns when Batman and Penguin said, "Things change." Well, they changed indeed, as this movie went in a more family friendly direction. Some liked it, but I think most didn't.
I used to watch this a great deal as a kid and Believe it or not, I still kind of like it. It's rather corny with its one liners and stuff. I think Val Kilmer was a good Bruce Wayne but certainly not a better Batman than Michael Keaton but I think a lot of that had to do with the script.
Two-Face (played by Tommy Lee Jones instead of Billy Dee Williams) was kind of acting like the Joker at times, but Jim Carrey was a GREAT choice for the Riddler simply because that' just who he is.
Also, we're finally introduced to Robin (played by Chris O'Donnell, instead of Marlon Wayans) and I think they did a good job with him, his origin story and actually managed to give him a pretty cool costume.
There is also a somewhat interesting love triangle going on involving Dr. Chase Meridian (played by the very hot Nicole Kidman), Batman AND Bruce Wayne. Yes, there are points when Bruce Wayne gets Jealous of his Altar Ego.
Moving on though, this movie has some cool moments, I think the fight scenes were great, but the corniness is really what hurts this film. Overall, this movie is good for kids but I think everyone else would find this film to be a bit cringe worthy.
I still like it though.
