Review of Batman Forever (1995) by James D — 22 Feb 2018
I enjoyed this movie when I was younger but as I grew up, I've come to realize that it's not as great or even good for that matter. It's just average and nothing more. For a Batman movie, that's quite a disappointing rating.
It's better than Batman & Robin, but it's still quite possibly the second worst Batman movie ever made. I love the soundtrack in Joel Schumacher's Batman movies, the cool gadgets Batman uses, and the fight scenes of course.
However, it's not enough to make up for bad acting in a few scenes, bat nipples on the suits along with cringe-worthy butt shots when they put on the uniforms, a lack of character development, and plot holes galore.
Jim Carrey plays a good Riddler, but what he really needed was a better script and costume. Likewise, Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face is also passable. Looks aren't everything, but they could have done more to make the villains not appear as fake and stupid.
They should look intimidating, but tell jokes every here and there to stay true to the comics. The Joker in the Dark Knight is a good example and model to go off of. In the future, they should definitely try to make another Batman movie with the Riddler.
Johnny Depp or Jim Carrey could fit the role. Overall, this is an ok film if Batman (1989), Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and the Dark Knight Rises aren't on t.v. and I feel like watching a Batman movie.
Adam West as Batman was good, but it's not my generation so it doesn't interest me as much.
