I remember seeing this in theatres feeling it seems like there are scenes missing. I bought the Batman Anthology which has Burtons two movies as well as Shuemakers. Turns out he wanted to and in fact did make a darker more serious movie then was released.

The studio had some very serious and dark scenes cut from the movie that would have made this movie amazing. WB after Batman Returns panicked because they thought returns was too dark. They forced a more family friendly film on the director.
