Review of Batman Begins (2005) by Steve T — 04 Jul 2014
If you go back and watch this movie after 2012 - after several reboots of franchises - after the glut of comic book action movies - and this absolutely has to be the greatest superhero movie ever made in terms of story, cinematography, action, writing, and acting. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer, Linus Roache (before Law and Order), and probably Christian Bale's finest performance. You see the beginnings of Liam Neesom's resurgence of an action star playing the villain. The best of course is Gary Oldman. Like just about every movie he has ever been in, it take about 15-30 minutes into his character before you realize it is Gary Oldman playing the part. That is how good he is at disappearing into his role.
Remember how great and "dark" everybody thought the 1989 Batman movie was with Nicholson and Prince. Try watching it after this one and try not to be disgusted with yourself at how good you thought that version was.
