Review of Batman Begins (2005) by Angel E — 05 Apr 2014
The best BATMAN we have ever had on the big screen, and or small screen!
I'd say that this is the definitive origins of BATMAN on live action period! Director Christopher Nolan is an amazing film maker, and he did a fantastic job in bringing BATMAN into a realistic world while still having the comic book roots represented all through out the film.
He incorporated more comic book themes in his trilogy than are present in the 90s Batman movies. Here we get a proper death scene with the Waynes. Joe Chill is the killer, and not the Joker which is how it's happened in the comics many times. We do get an updated version of the story, and it's about BATMAN, and has no representation of Robin or the extended Bat family from the comics.
This was done to have Batman be the focus of this film, and also to avoid fan confusion in thinking this would tie in the 90s franchises which was murdered by "Batman & Robin" (1998) while some cry about the lack of Robin in the Nolan trilogy they forget that Batman was originally conceived as a vigilante, and Robin was added later. Even Nolan added a "Robin" type character in his last film which leads you to believe that in future stories in this universe which we wont get to see Bruce Wayne does indeed have a side kick named Robin.
One thing fans complained about for some odd reason was Christian Bales BATMAN voice which was a growl, and menacing. To me the fans who complain about this have very little knowledge in the present comics from the early 90s to present day before the big NEW 52 reboot Batman had been said to have a "Growl" when he spoke to his enemies. So what actor Christian Bale did was actually keeping in line with the comics.
This movie borrows from the entire BATMAN universe in one way or another, and this is why to me it's the Ultimate BATMAN trilogy... This one will be very hard to top by any director.
