Review of Batman and Harley Quinn (2017) by Justin K — 18 Aug 2017
The really important thing to keep in mind while watching this movie is that it's not really a Batman movie. It's a Harley Quinn movie. The movie does a great job of living up to the Harley Quinn comics and of showing off her lovable, crass character.
The animation and soundtrack were well done and Melissa Rauch destroyed all of my expectations. The big flaw in the story for me was the fact that it never felt like a "Batman and Harley Quinn" story.
In the beginning of the movie, it focuses more on Batman while Harley Quinn just tags along at first, but near halfway through the movie becomes all about Harley while Batman is just there fighting a bit.
One character was always the focus while the other acted as secondary, and when those roles shifted, it got a little weird and took a bit to get used to the pretty drastic change in storytelling. Otherwise, great movie.
