Batman '89 is a movie I will always remember fondly, because in a time before Nolan's Batman movies this (and the 1992 sequel Batman Returns) was the ****.

Michael Keaton gives a good understated performance as both Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight which is nice because as good as Christian Bale is in the role, the growl of his can get a little... eh. Jack Nicholson's performance is gloriously over the top, and he's playing the Joker so I'd say it was called for. He was clearly having a ball because I'm sure Tim Burton said "you-know what, Jack, just do whatever and we'll keep filming and see how that goes.".

I really like the gothic aesthetic that Tim Burton brought to his version of Batman, the movie looks fantastic.

My love for this film is not purely bred from nostalgia (although that helps), it's also a really solid flick. Have you seen it recently? Go back and watch it, it holds up.
