Review of Batman (1989) by Mathlover9000 — 02 Feb 2018
An underrated movie for sure. This film was excellent. The story/plot and characters were well written. There were a few great emotional scenes. The comedy was gold in this movie. I love Bryce Wayne's character in this movie.
I love how he struggled to live a "normal" life and live being a hero. I liked how his relationship with Vera was written. Both of them were able to connect to each other very well. I love how the people of Gotham were nervous when Batman was taking care of the criminals.
The best part of the movie was the Joker. I loved how Batman was the reason for the Joker's rise and ambitions. The Joker had a reason to be against Batman, other than the fact that he was the bad guy.
He had numerous great lines and funny moments. This movie isn't without minor flaws. The first act was a bit difficult to understand at times, though the second and third acts make up for this. The romance between Bruce Wayne and Vira was rushed in the beginning.
The scene when the Joker revealed to Batman that he killed his parents was unneeded. The bigger problem with that scene was the way it was handled. It wasn't set up properly and should have been more dramatic and emotional.
Despite its flaws, this film was excellent, well-written, and fun to watch. I give this movie a 9/10.
