Review of Basket Case (1982) by David G — 14 Jan 2008
Oh my God, what a fucked up movie. I saw this as part of "Grindhouse Day" at my local theatre along with Planet Terror and Death Proof and in my schlocky B-movie naivety I can safely say that I have never seen anything like it.
As bad as the film may be, with all the necessary B-movie checkboxes ticked off - nudity, sex, bad acting, awful special effects and gore, I can see why it has developed a cult following over the years.
There are some interesting themes here, which while hidden deeply under mountains of blood, cheese and stop-motion drawer-flinging, can be quite rewarding. Still, first and foremost this is a cheesy B-movie and in that respect it excels.
