Review of Basic Instinct 2 (2006) by Van C — 09 Jun 2007
If someone made a Superman film in which Supes himself didn't wear the infamous suit, didn't fly, and for some reason was forced to fight a giant spider in the third act, fans of the franchise would likely be enraged (shockingly, the aforementioned very nearly happened courtesy of Jon Peters).
Someone should have told all that meanwhile, to the makers of this piece of crap. Exactly how do you make a movie about a notriously deviant murderous sexual predator without including any sex beyond an eight second mild humping sequence and a cursory glance elsewhere? For how long this script spent in development and how much input Sharon Stone herself had, it's shocking that no one thought to look into what really made the original film great in the first place ? namely that it was an uninhibited adult thriller.
Instead, what we're left with is a film that could very well have been an ITV 8PM movie of the week special starring some actress from Cutting It and Martin Clunes. Avoid like the plague, avoid it as if your life depended on it.
