Review of Basic Instinct 2 (2006) by Eetu H — 03 Nov 2007
When a film crosses the 100 million landmark, Hollywood doesn?t seem capable of not producing a sequel. I can?t entirely blame them for that. As bad as follow-ups like ?The Matrix Revolutions? and ?Jurassic Park III? were, they still managed to make another 100 million bucks due to the popularity of their processors. What the producers of ?Basic Instinct 2? seemed to forget was that the sequel has to be made while audiences are still interested.
If you?ve done nothing the last fourteen years accept anticipate a sequel to Basic Instinct, then you?re in for a reel disappointment. Basic Instinct 2 is a sequel so pointless, so unnecessary, and so unbelievable awful, words can not describe it. I suppose the question that comes to mind when I even imagine of the thought of this movie is, ?Why God, why?? You can tell that Hollywood has completely run out of ideas when they start making sequels nearly ten years after the original film stopped being popular.
Michael Douglas at least had a quarter of brain to advise him to steer clear of this movie. However Sharon Stone is back, reprising one of the worst characters in cinematic history: Catherine Tramell. I?ll admit Stone still looks remarkable for someone soon to be turning fifty. She made my dick mighty hard in one hot tub sequence. But just like Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming Rocky sequel, Stone is too old to be playing this character.
There is absolutely no plot in this movie. There isn?t even a single shred of interesting dialog in the entire film. To me every word sounded like, ?Blah, blah, blah!? The film is directed with zero stile whatsoever. The ending above all is completely ludicrous with no explanation.
I have no clue what Hollywood was trying to accomplish with this movie. Perhaps they thought they could turn it into a ridiculous, camp follow-up that audiences would just laugh at.
Above all, Basic Instinct 2 is just plain boring! It?s rare that I ever contemplate walking out of or falling asleep in the middle of a movie. However I really had no desire to finish watching Basic Instinct 2. The Razzie Awards can be sure to reserve Basic Instinct 2 nominations for Worst Remake or Sequel, Worst Actress, and Worst Picture. I know I?ll be sure to save it a spot one my list or the worst films of 2006..
