Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Gregory B — 22 Oct 2010
What I love so much about a lot of the Coen Brothers' movies is that you're left thinking about what it all really meant in the end, long after the movie's over. So much is left open-ended that it really makes you wonder how much symbolism you can discover from watching this movie again.
Like many of their movies don't expect to get a nice, clean, cookie-cutter, Hollywood ending, but the ending will really make you think much more than the regular stuff Hollywood spits out. What I liked was that many surprises happen in Barton Fink, that leave you guessing, suspending you on the edge of your seat, wondering how it's all gonna turn out in the end.
Of course like all Coen-made movies, it has that subtle humor in it but I'd say this is a lot more drama and film noir than it is a comedy. Not like Lebowski or O Brother. No doubt Turturro's best role I've ever seen him in and Goodman is a good man for this role.
Perfect movie. Released in theaters two days before I was born interestingly enough...
