Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Jake G — 06 Oct 2009
Kubrick liked to expand his artistic palette, tackling controversial subjects and challenging the audience. Disregarding the good-but-not-quite-his SPARTACUS, BARRY LYNDON is Kubrick's sole epic film.
And the genre mastery he displays in this film, it's simply incredible. The pacing never plods and a subcurrent of edginess prevails throughout. O'Neal is well cast as Lyndon, and his nuanced performance well portrays a troubled man.
Full of haunting images, some like living paintings, LYNDON stands as a well crafted, deep film.
