Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Carlos R — 16 Sep 2010
A wonderful masterpiece by Kubrick, and it surely must be his more "serious" film and undoubtly his most tragic work. A beautiful movie, moving, heartbreaking, powerful. This film is divided in two parts: Part I - By What Means Redmond Barry Acquired the Style and Title of Barry Lyndon and Part II - Containing an Account of the Misfortunes and Disasters Which Befell Barry Lyndon, and each one of them it's great on its own way, the first is more like an adventure movie, some action, introduction of the characters, and actually a little bit boring, but not very much; meanwhile the second part (the best by far) is completely different: an intense, moving and powerful drama about the true nature of the main character, and his influence on the Lyndon family.
The deepness and intensity of this motion picture are undescriptible, and to fully appreciate it, I must watch it more times. It's just been the first time, and I don't only admire it, I loved it.
