Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Brian B — 13 Jan 2011
What can you say that hasn't been said about Kubrick. All of his movies are masterpieces on some level, and this is my favorite of the bunch. Why? Because I'm a sucker for a good historical fiction.
And the fact that he destroyed a gajillion dollar camera just so he could film in ambient lighting accurate to the time period shows that this is a man who will stop at nothing to realize his vision. I even thought Ryan O'Neil, who I generally don't like, was excellent in this movie.
It's like watching a 18th century painting come to life.
