Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Evening N — 03 Jun 2011
A masterpiece. The candle lit scenes are opulent, unique and beautiful beyond description. Every frame rich deliberate and paced to inhale it all in, slowly. Haunting, disturbing and calculating reflecting well the social strata and milieu.
Casting is masterful. I have seen this film 3 times 10 years apart, and it just gets better. I see how it has inspired other directors. I agree it may be Kubrick's best.
