Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Michael S — 14 Aug 2008
At the beginning I wasn't quite enjoying this film but after certain time into it, I was dragged by the majesty of its sound track and the perfection in which all the people were brought into every frame of film.
then I had this sense of familiarity some sort of deja-vu. a lot of modern movies began to come to my mind and I realized that this film has been such an endless inspiration to so many contemporary directors.
some have sadly been totally disappointing but some others caught the utter essence of astonishing near-perfect unique style of film making with which this film was made to make theirs other grand pieces of cinema.
this wasn't exactly Kubrick's strongest film but it was a memorable one. some shots seemed to me as if they could be paintings from a bygone age carefully crafted by some of the greatest painters that in their time existed but they happened to just be carefully crafted shots set by that unique person whose endless talent allowed him to be the only one with the ability to pull them so well and leave in the viewer such a feeling that could only be surpassed by the scene following the previous one all the way towards that grand finale.
