Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Kenneth B — 15 Jan 2009
This brooding, epic tale is the kind of grand work that only the great filmmakers are capable of. Kubrick is certainly one of the most singular directors ever and although I am not a fan of all his work his influence far outreaches that of most who have come before or since.
Although this is, shall we say, modestly paced the atmosphere is thick, dim and constant. The result is a wonderfully shot (some of the landscapes are extraordinary), wonderfully scored film which falls just short of greatness.
