Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Simon V — 27 Jan 2009
A masterpiece and probably the only Kubrick movie I love. I distinctly remember being bored to death watching this as a kid. Now being a "grown up" as they call it, I fell into the fantastic recreation of the XVIIIth century : kudos to ambient lighting, excellent soundtrack, fantastic costumes and compelling life story of a poor lad who, after all, gambled way above what he could afford.
The typical slow rhythm of Kubrick compliments this movie wonderfully.
