Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Andrejs P — 22 Feb 2009
Interesting period piece set in the mid 1700's in Ireland and England. A really long movie so be prepared. Movie is about the trials and tribulations of Barry Lyndon going through life and attempting to move up in society from nothing. Sounds pretty boring but actually its not. Although I'm not sure I agree with the use of the narrator as it kills any suspense because the narrator often tells of what is to happen way before it actually does. Other then that I really cant find much fault with the film. As far as the cinematagraphy, the only thing I could compare it with would be The Leopard, another epic length period piece. The scenery in Barry Lyndon is reason enough to watch this movie.
If you're into period piece movies, this is a must see. Or, of course, if you are a Stanley Kubrick fan, a must see.
