Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Kyle H — 22 Jun 2014
One of the best and most underrated Stanley Kubrick pictures, Barry Lyndon is a haunting depiction of 18th Century aristocracy, so realistic that you may forget you're watching a movie and begin to think you've traveled back in time.
Kubrick was heavily inspired by paintings of the time, and it shows, for each shot looks as beautiful as a painting. To no surprise (considering that this is a Kubrick film), Redmond Barry, played wonderfully by Ryan O'Neal, is not a relatable or likable character, but he is a representation of the anger and greed that can infiltrate our souls if we let selfishness and bad past experiences overwhelm us.
