Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Bob K — 10 Jun 2016
The first half of Barry Lyndon was like imaging a story to go along with a series of beautiful still paintings. Somehow, this period piece seemed to pick up energy and vitality as it entered the second half, following the intermission, based on the camera movement and editing pace.
We are forewarned that Lyndon's life will collapse, but we don't really care that much, since his rise was based on so much falsehood and chicanery. Still, he ends up with 500 guineas a year somewhere in the world under George III's reign, and that was a very livable sum, even missing half a leg.
Worth the effort.
