Review of Barney's Version (2010) by Cristian B — 31 Jan 2011
Though the story can be sprawling and a little all-over-the place, thanks to a great cast and rich characters, the movie is an engaging experience. Once again, Giamatti shows why he is one of the best actors working today.
He creates another memorable performance as Barney. It's a complex role that requires him to be both sympathetic and unlikable. Hoffman is hilarious and honest as Barney's father. Pike is luminous and creates a touching portrait of a devoted wife to Barney.
Despite some of Barney's questionable choices, the audience roots for Barney because we see a little of ourselves in him. A funny, quirky, and ultimately moving experience.
