Review of Barney's Version (2010) by Isabelle G — 07 Sep 2011
Beautifully played character romance made even more believable by the performances of its sterling cast, especially Giamatti, whose moving portrayal of the hapless Barney more than makes up for its occasional lapse in concentration.
Poignant as the central romance is, I did find the break-up of the relationship (and the wife's subsequent marriage to an sappy vegan) lacking in credibility and seemed a somewhat lightweight hook to hang their downfall upon.
That said, even at over 2 hours, this intimate drama more or less captivates and amuses and is well worth watching for its star cast and witty dialogue alone. Recommended.
