Review of Barney's Version (2010) by Sandy K — 16 Mar 2012
From the beginning, it's clear that Barney is a self-centered jerk, yet Paul Giamatti manages to make this paunchy, sarcastic, cigar-smoking, booze-guzzling mess a sympathetic character. (How can you resist a TV producer who whimsically calls his company "Totally Unnecessary Productions?") A mystery of what happened to his best friend is underplayed throughout the story, but ultimately provides the needed closure in this comic-tragedy.
