Review of Barbarian (2022) by Compi24 — 09 Sep 2022
"The Whitest Kids U' Know's" Zach Cregger is reintroduced to the general moviegoing public by way of "Barbarian," a refreshingly unpredictable and thoroughly entertaining chillfest.
With horror becoming one of the more common genres for artists to really flex their voices within, Cregger's joined in and proved he's yet another one to be reckoned with. This is a biting, hilarious and frightening film on an atmospheric, thematic and subtextual level.
You have to love a movie that's willing to take as many swings as this one does. Structural conventions are constantly upended, leaving the audience in the dark for pretty much the entire runtime. Much love to Justin Long for delivering a gut-bustingly despicable performance as well.
I had a helluva time watching this. Cannot recommend enough.
