Review of Barbarella (1968) by Ryan P — 11 Aug 2008
This is a very odd movie, made with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. The adventure Barbarella goes on is of the most uneven sort. A variety of quite unrelated scenes that hardly build on each other until near the end. This is psychedelic storytelling in its prime.
While on a mission to stop a villain who could destroy the peace that has existed for hundreds of years, Barbarella learns about the physical form of love. Keep that in mind. Because even though this is rated PG, it was rated in 1968, when they used a different rulebook in their rating. There *is* nudity in this film. It's not a large part of the movie, but it's there. (Though added up entirely, it probably takes up little to no more screen time than that one scene in Titanic. ... You know which scene I'm talking about.).
