Review of Baran (2001) by Lou D — 17 Feb 2011
Vivid movie that is primarily based on a young illegal afghan girl who pretends and disguises herself to look like a boy so that she can help support her family when her father is severely injured in the workplace.
tension arises when a young lazy iranian worker fears losing his more lax job for the boy/girl and flares go off, but only as far to his discovery of her secret. keeping it to himself, he immediately yearns for her and sacrifices much to aide her family and muster up actions to show her how he feels.
too much symbolism and unspoken emotional content to illustrate in a short review, but it's deep. as in most of majidi's films, the ending will be left to your imagination, but the ride is always worth the trip.
