Review of Baraka (1992) by Deus M — 19 Mar 2009
This movie is a mix between koyaanisqatsi and powaqqatsi made almost a decade before Baraka. I noticed some 'copycat' filming style with the qatsi movies like the high-speed traffic on the intersections, the three girls with the speeding train in the background, the deep look of the (obviously unhappy) geisha in the camera, the factory scenes, etc...
Nevertheless, this movie is totally refreshing. No Godfrey Reggio and most of all my beloved Philip Glass music feels very absent with this alternative music style.
