Review of Baraka (1992) by Ryan M — 19 Jun 2009
When I get a Blu-Ray Player, the first Blu-Ray I purchase shall be "Baraka". Essentially the world and its inhabitants in 90 minutes, it uses ethnic music to give an ethereal feeling to the stunning imagery captured by just a 3 man crew, over 14 months, in 24 countries over 6 continents.
There is no script, or cast members or even plot: It is a collection of images of beautiful scenery, life on Earth, and the westernisation of our Mother Earth. The general point of the film is that we need to protect Mother Earth, usually I'm against pro-environmental propaganda, but when the images are this stunning it really doesn't matter.
One of the finest films about life on Earth, and it does it all without words. Masterful.
