SPOILER.
Barabbas was the guy Pilate set free instead of Christ. Interspersed in the action of the film Barabbas keeps wondering why he was spared instead of Christ and what that all means and does his life have any purpose? It's all dated now, but if you can let yourself get into the flow of it you will most likely enjoy watching it.
