Review of Bang Bang You're Dead (2003) by Aaron J — 28 Mar 2010
Somehow I forgot all about this after seeing part of it and intending to watch it around six years ago. Pretty good stuff. I'm usually impressed with Ben Foster and this was fairly early work. Cavanagh can be annoying but works well in this movie.
As for the movie, seems like a way to incorporate the play with the same title, which seems to be based on the Kipp Kinkel shooting at his high school after he shot is parents. The play actually looked pretty good and I would advocate it be shown in high schools all over.
The movie does well enough to make everything pretty cut and dry. Everything is nicely captured on video, and the bullies are clearly bullies who get away with everything. It would never be like that in real life first because who videotapes school, and two, I would hope schools have a better handle on things than in this movie.
That said, I think the black and white is a good place to start a discussion on the issue of bullying and school violence.
