Review of Bamboozled (2000) by Andrew S — 15 Mar 2008
Who knew Damon Wayans could pull off such a dramatic role. I'm quite surprised that I didn't enjoy this film I'm a HUGE Spike Lee fan and he usually does amazing work but I think this film is his weakest one to date.
I understand the message he was trying to convey through the film and yes it is a good and powerful one I just think the execution of the film is not as best as it could be. The tones varies through out first it appears to be this black comedy then towards the end it abruptly turns fairly dramatic the shift in tone is quite disjointing.
I'm assuming he went with a low budget feel to help capture the feel he wanted. I mean the camera quality was extremely poor but maybe he was going for that I'm not quite sure. But this was rather disappointing Spike Lee joint.
