Review of Balto (1995) by Rod G — 13 Oct 2012
I am very disappointed with the summary Flixter has provided for this movie. It's not meant to be funny or cutesy-wootsy. It was meant to be inspiring and bittersweet. This is one of my favourite films of all time.
It is a hugely underrated film, and it's sad that almost no one has heard of or seen it. It's a beautiful film, the score is fantastic and the overall message is highly inspiring. It's not cheesy like some kid's films, and it's enjoyable for everyone.
The characters are well-developed and lovable, even the background characters. For example, Kaltag and Star's constant banter is highly entertaining, and even Dixie and Sylvia have their own obscure charm.
The change in heart that the other sled dogs experience near the climax of the film is really heartwarming, such as Star's eagerness to help Balto lead the dogs to safety. Overall this is a sweet and enjoyable film for everyone.
