Review of Baise-moi (2000) by Lara T — 21 Apr 2007
Like "Irreversible" without the cool cinematography. Again, I can almost hear the producers talking: "what we're doing here is expanding the scope of what cinema can and should be by challenging notions of sex and violence, and exposing the grim truths of reality by holding up a mirror to contemporary society and forcing the viewer to react blah blah blah dee blah ad nauseum.
.." More likely, I think you'll find, the folk who made this know only too well how much money can be made from 'shock' cinema. I'd say that there's no artistic merit whatsoever in this film but then again, they are French, so maybe they actually do think they are making a point.
