Review of Baghead (2008) by Madiha H — 23 Feb 2009
I sort of liked this movie. The seemingly improvised dialogue got a little annoying and some of the back and forth went on a little too long. But I found some of the scenes really captivating (especially the romantic entanglements) and the melding of the two genres really interesting and effective.
I like both smart indie comedies and low budget horror movies, but was shocked that they work well together. If the horror angle hadn't happened, I don't think I would have been able to sit through much more of the indie cuteness.
I was impressed that the film got genuinely scary. I thought it was well-directed and the acting was mostly believable. It's an interesting hybrid that shouldn't work, but the film's just smart and original enough to pull it off.
